Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She became a Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign correspondent for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell was a panelist at the 1988 debates between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. She covered many notable stories such as arm control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits in the company of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
